Today - Rhea is on DeathRow today at Manhattan Shelter…. Her Animal ID # is A0955078. She is three years old. 45lbs. Mellow and sweet tempered. Rhea was found locked in the bathroom of an abandoned building.
A volunteer writes: Who would think that such a common looking little female would stir so many people’s hearts….Rhea is small and skinny, she was a mother many times and her body is covered with very old scars. Her past is unknown to us although we know that Rhea was recently found left to starve for days and days in an empty apartment bathroom…. There is just something about her, her history, the look on her face, her gentle demeanor, her need to seek human warmth whenever she can find it, that beautifies her whole persona and makes you fall in love. I found Rhea in few occasions cuddling with staff and volunteers.They looked so happy together. She has been missing so much on love. It is hard to photograph Rhea. She moves as I move. She wants to stay close and not to loose the source of warmth that makes her feel safe and belonging… She is shy and needy, comes on my lap, very close and buries her face into my chest. In the street, Rhea does not pull, she walks in pace with me. She even sits for a treat…As we rest in a pen, Rhea leaves my side when another dog enters the yard. She wags her tail, her hackles are slightly up. She is clearly worried but comes back to me as I call her. It is possible that sweet Rhea might have been picked on by other dogs in a distant past… Coming to the care center might just be the opportunity Rhea needed to break free from her most likely grim past. Rhea needs you to fulfil our dream to see her at last happy . Our dream is now hers too as she tasted love, may be for the first time in her life, at the Manhattan Care Center. Do not make her wait too long..
